Dear Readers:
The Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council will begin accepting nominations October 1, 2009 for its Board Of Directors.
Per the HLAC Bylaws, each year four positions are elected to the Board of Directors. Board positions are categorized into four classes:
Class 1 represents the commercial healthcare textile laundry processor. (Incumbent: Rick Kislia, Crescent Laundry, Davenport, IA)
Class 2* represents industry associations such as ARTA, TRSA, ALM, ASHES and others who support the purposes of the Council. (Incumbent: Nancy Bjerke, BSN, RN, MPH, CIC, Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc., San Antonio, TX).
*HLAC has a vacant Class 2 slot for the above class with a term that goes through December 2010.
Class 3 represents the in-house or cooperative textile laundry processor. (No incumbent running.) Class 4 represents the government or users of healthcare textiles. (Incumbent: Sandra Hensley, RN, MSEM, BSN, CIC, University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo, OH)
Industry professionals who are interested and meet the qualifications are encouraged to fill out the nominee packet. Submissions must be received no later than 12:00 noon Pacific Time on October 23, 2009.

Brett Higgins, HLAC Inspector, Receives ASHES Phoenix Award
On Monday, September 21, the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES), of the American Hospital Association, presented the Phoenix Award, ASHES' highest honor, to Brett Higgins, CHESP.
The Phoenix Award is presented annually to an individual that has selflessly served in multiple ASHES leadership roles, sacrificed family and personal time to complete the work of ASHES, and often gave of their personal and financial resources to the advancement of the organization and the profession. This prestigious honor bestowed upon Higgins recognizes his visible and lasting impact through his outstanding contributions to the growth of ASHES, elevating the professionalism of the society, dedic=
ation to the membership body, and for his unwavering commitment to the field of healthcare environmental and textile care services. Higgins=
has been involved with the ASHES organization since 1994 and has chaired several committees at the national and regional level and served as the local chapter president. In 2000 Higgins was elected by his peers to the ASHES national board serving as an at-large member of the board of directors. In 2006 he was appointed President. Brett Higgins is a director of healthcare environmental services at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa and is also an HLAC inspector. Congratulations Brett! | |
